Rajanna-Sircilla: Farmers, already struggling with a shortfall of urea, are now facing another hurdle as damaged electricity poles and snapped wires have left their fields without a power supply.
Floods in a rivulet on the outskirts of Mallareddypet in Gambhiraopet mandal damaged electricity poles and cut off supply. With restoration works yet to be taken up, farmers have been forced to rely on generators to irrigate standing crops.
To save their fields, ryots are hiring generators from private operators to pump water into agricultural lands. They expressed concern that although floods had receded several days ago, officials have not restored electricity poles and wires, leaving them to bear additional expenses.
