Mahabubnagar: Farmers in Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s home district of Palamoor continued to struggle for urea on Thursday, with long queues, protests and slogan-shouting reported from several constituencies.
At Moosapet mandal in Devarkadra constituency, farmers said they had been waiting since early morning for fertiliser. Two engineering students from Vemula village, Akshya and Abhiram, even skipped college to stand in line at the Rythu Vedika.
Former MLA A. Venkateshwar Reddy, who visited the centre, demanded that the Congress government ensure immediate supply of adequate urea to farmers.
In Kodangal, the Chief Minister’s own constituency, farmers also faced severe hardship. Women and men reached the PACS in Maddur mandal before dawn in hopes of securing fertiliser.
Similar scenes were witnessed at PACS centres in Dhanwada mandal of Narayanpet, where farmers staged protests demanding adequate supply. Officials put up ‘out of stock’ boards, further angering farmers who had queued for hours.
In Jogulamba Gadwal, farmers lined up at the PACS office from as early as 5 am. Many said they had left their work in the fields to wait in line, but were still uncertain about getting fertiliser.
“We left our work in the fields and have been standing in queue since morning. Still, there is no guarantee of getting sufficient urea,” farmers complained.
With tension rising, the district administration deployed police personnel at several PACS centres.
