Peddapalli: Farmers foiled an attempt by a fertiliser shop owner to sell urea illegally in Katikanapalli of Dharmaram mandal on Tuesday night.
About 220 bags of urea had arrived at the Argos fertiliser shop on Tuesday evening. The stock was to be distributed among farmers on Wednesday in the presence of the Agriculture Extension Officer.
As per procedure, urea distribution is done after verifying Aadhaar and Pattadar passbooks, with details entered into a mobile application.
However, the shop owner allegedly tried to divert 22 bags illegally and shift them to another location using a tractor and an autorickshaw. Farmers, learning about the move, rushed to the spot and questioned him, pointing out that only one bag is allotted per farmer.
Police reached the spot soon after, seized the consignment, and reloaded the bags into the godown.
