Khammam: Farmers were forced to stage a protest for urea in Agriculture Minister Thummala Nageswara Rao’s own district, Khammam, reflecting the State government’s failure to ensure adequate supply of the fertiliser.

A large number of farmers staged a flash protest at the Tallada Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society (PACS) office, demanding supply of sufficient urea for all farmers.

Around 200 farmers from 10 villages under the PACS rushed to the stock point after learning that a truckload of urea was arriving on Friday. However, PACS staff informed them that only 200 bags were available, and another 200 bags were being diverted to another society. The farmers demanded to know where the bags were being sent.

Suspecting diversion of urea to the black market, the farmers intensified the protest. It was only after PACS organisers and police assured them that all farmers would receive their share that the agitation was withdrawn.

In Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka’s Madhira constituency, farmers reportedly waited for hours at the Chintakani PACS warehouse, leaving their footwear in queues to secure bags of urea.

According to a recent statement by Agriculture Minister Thummala Nageswara Rao, the Department of Fertilisers allotted 23.75 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of various grades of fertilisers for Vanakalam 2025, including 9.80 LMT of urea. The Minister said the stocks would last until July.
