Mancherial: An employee of Orient Cement Company-Devapur and his son were killed, while his wife and younger son sustained injuries when a car mowed down a motorbike the family was riding near Itikyal village in Luxettipet mandal of Mancherial district on Sunday.

Police said that Sidam Shankar (38) and his son Sagar (12) received critical injuries when the car hit the bike. Sagar died on the spot while Shankar succumbed to the injuries while being shifted to a hospital in Karimnagar.

Shankar was a resident of Rampur village in Kasipet mandal. He was a leader of Tudum Debba, a tribal rights organisation and leader of BRS.

His wife Sumitra and son Santosh were also wounded in the mishap. They were admitted to a hospital in Karimnagar. Their medical condition was reported to be stable.

Meanwhile, former Bellampalli MLA Durgam Chinnaiah and leaders of BRS expressed shock over the death of Shankar. Chinnaiah said that Shankar played a vital role in protecting the rights of employees and workers of the cement manufacturer. He opined that Shankar’s death has left a void for tribal communities and the BRS.
