Hyderabad: “I thought I would take both my daughters home today. Instead, I am taking my elder daughter’s body. I had hoped she would come home for the festival, but she is no more. My younger daughter is fighting for her life,” said Narayanadasu, breaking down after his 18-year-old daughter, Sona, died in an accident at MVSR Engineering College in Nadergul on Saturday.
Sona, a first-year B.Tech student, was killed when a large decorative arch fitted with electric lights collapsed during a Dandiya celebration on the college premises. Fourteen other students were injured, including her younger sister, Meena, who was critically injured.
Blaming the college management for the tragedy, Narayanadasu alleged that adequate arrangements had not been made despite the scale of the event. He said the management had failed his daughters and expressed anguish that no one from the college had enquired about Sona after her death.
The sisters had joined the college only a month earlier. Narayanadasu said he had chosen the institution for both daughters so they could stay together, even though his younger daughter had secured admission to another college.
The decision was intended to keep the sisters close as they pursued their education. Now, the family is devastated, with the father preparing to take his elder daughter’s body home while his younger daughter remains in critical condition.
