Khammam: Economic offences and POCSO Act cases increased in Khammam district in 2021. According to the annual crime report released by the Khammam Police Commissionerate, as many as 291 economic offences have taken place in 2021 while a total of 237 such offences were reported in 2020. Cyber crimes have come down with just eight cases in 2021 in comparison to 26 cases in 2020. Social media cases were also on the decline with five cases in 2021 as against 26 cases in 2020.
But the POCSO Act cases were on the rise with around 116 cases reported last year as against 79 cases in 2020. Same was the case with IPC 498 A (harassment of women) cases, wherein last year 289 cases reported while in 2020 it was 279. Interestingly, exactly same number of dowry murder and dowry death cases reported with two and five cases in 2020 as well as last year. Eve teasing cases came down with 13 cases last year as against 22 cases in 2020, the report said.
Though murder cases declined number of attempt to murder cases gone up last year in which a total of 20 murders took place, while in 2020 it was 28. A total of 40 attempt to murder cases reported in 2020 while 56 cases reported last year. Property offences went up in Khammam with 506 cases reported last as against 364 cases in 2020 while the recovery rate was down to 51 percent in 2021 as against the 64 percent in 2020. Of the Rs 5.01 crore lost property, Rs 2.54 crore was recovered.
In Kothagudem district, POCSO Act cases came down with 127 cases last year as against 134 cases in 2020. But kidnappings went up with 59 cases last year while 32 cases reported in 2020. Likewise, IPC 498A cases increased with 354 last year and 266 in 2020.
