Hyderabad: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has completed the Commercial Operation Declaration (COD) and trial operation of Unit 3 of the TGGENCO Yadadri Thermal Power Project (5×800 MW). This has taken the total synchronised grid capacity to 3,200 MW.

While Unit 3 was undergoing standard post-COD stabilisation procedures under BHEL’s technical supervision on Sunday, a localised fire broke out in the turbine-driven boiler feed pump (TDBFP-A) area. The unit was hand-tripped as an immediate safety precaution in accordance with operating protocols.

The plant activated its emergency response system. Internal fire safety teams, supported by plant fire services, brought the fire under control. There were no injuries or casualties in the incident. Preliminary assessments indicated no major equipment damage.

The BHEL technical teams at the site were evaluating the area to determine the exact extent of the damage. Remedial and restoration work will commence immediately. BHEL will restore the unit to full service at the earliest possible time.

In a press statement, BHEL said it remains committed to the safe execution of the Yadadri project to strengthen Telangana’s power infrastructure.
