Kothagudem: A folk artist, Ramachandraiah of Manugur in the district has been selected for Padma Shri award, the fourth-highest civilian award in the country to be presented by the Union government.
He is a drum artist who has been serving in the field for the past several decades. In a statement, District Collector Anudeep Durishetty expressed pleasure at the artist getting selected for the award. “It is a matter of pride for the district,” he said.
It may be noted that a nadaswaram artist, Gosaveedu Shaik Hassan of Andhra Pradesh who was selected for Padma Shri award has served at historical Sri Seetha Ramachandra Swamy Temple at Bhadrachalam in the district for many years.
