Kothagudem: BRS district president and former MLA Rega Kantha Rao lodged a complaint with Manugur police against Congress workers who vandalised the mandal party office on Sunday.
In the complaint submitted to Manugur DSP V Ravindra Reddy, he said a large number of Congress workers, acting at the directions of Pinapaka MLA Payam Venkateshwarlu, attacked the BRS office, burnt furniture, computers, CCTV cameras, printers and other items worth Rs 10 lakh.
Kantha Rao said the Congress workers made casteist remarks against him in his absence, besides issuing threats to see his end and thrashing a Dalit BRS worker, Srujan Rao, while making casteist remarks against him as well. He maintained he had built the office building at his own expense in 2010 after getting elected as Pinapaka MLA. The plan to attack the BRS office was chalked out two days ago at the local MLA camp office. He named over 20 Congress workers who took part in the attack and asked police to take strict action against them.
Speaking to the media at Manugur on Monday, Kantha Rao said he bought the land from the landowner in 2010 for Rs 2 lakh. If the office building belongs to Congress party, the party leaders could take it by showing evidence. But resorting to physical attacks was highly condemnable, he said.
The BRS leader said the attack was carried out on the party office because he was questioning the Congress government over diversion of DMFT funds to Madhira and Palair Assembly constituencies. The BRS would settle the matter legally and get back the office, he added.
Former Sathupalli MLA Sandra Venkata Veeraiah, speaking at a programme in Khammam, said Kantha Rao had called for a Manugur bandh on November 7, demanding to carry out repairs to roads against the diversion of DMFT funds meant to be spent in the Singareni area.
