Hyderabad: The Congress government’s alleged corruption and ‘commission culture’ has drawn fresh criticism, this time from former MLA and former APSRTC chairman Gone Prakash Rao, who said he had never come across such corruption in any other government.
Expressing anger over the growing corruption, Prakash Rao alleged that some MLAs in the Congress government were demanding money even to attend official programmes. He claimed that one MLA sought a two percent commission for merely attending a government event and breaking a coconut at the venue for a work worth Rs 10 lakh. He, however, refused to reveal the MLA’s identity or district.
“It does not end here. The MLA even claims he will get the bill cleared from Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and for that, he demands an additional commission of 10 percent,” Prakash Rao said in an interview.
He said the MLA in question owned properties worth thousands of crores and more than 100 acres of land. Many Congress leaders believed this to be their last chance in power and were damaging the party, he remarked.
“Nothing is being spared, not even sand. The kind of looting that is happening is unimaginable,” he said.
The Congress government has been facing criticism from various quarters over alleged corruption. Contractors have accused Ministers and officials of demanding 20 to 30 percent commission for clearing pending bills.
“I have been closely observing politics since 1972. Never came across such corruption in any other government compared to the Congress government. Perhaps, no other States are witnessing such levels of corruption,” Prakash Rao said.
