Free of cost high-end diagnostic tests at TS govt district hospitals soon
Out of the 33 districts, dry run of tests has already started in 19 district headquarters hospitals under the aegis of Telangana Diagnostic Centre Hub and Spoke Model under TSMSIDC
Karimnagar: It is a common practice for patients to be referred to private diagnostic centres to undergo high-end tests for chronic diseases. In the absence of modern equipment, government doctors often refer patients to private labs. The scenario is set to change with the State government making arrangements for high-end diagnostic tests to be carried out at all district headquarters hospitals across the State.
Out of the 33 districts, dry run of tests has already started in 19 district headquarters hospitals under the aegis of Telangana Diagnostic Centre Hub and Spoke Model under Telangana State Medical Service and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TSMSIDC). Once the centres are established, as many as 57 different types of tests that cost between Rs 5,600 to Rs 6,200 will be conducted free of cost. Serum creatinine, blood urea, cholesterol, lipid profile, thyroid profile and other high-end tests will be conducted in these centres.
The dry run is being carried out from January 6 at the diagnostic centre in Karimnagar district headquarters hospital established at a cost of Rs 2.7 crore. In total, 16 PHCs, six UHCs, Huzurabad and Jammikunta area hospital have been linked to the centre.
Speaking to Telangana Today, Dr K Sudhakar, programme officer of the diagnostic centre here, said bio-chemistry analyser, immune chemistry analyser, cell counter machine, urine analyser, Elisha reader machine and 2D echo were major equipment available at the diagnostic centre now. Blood samples collected from patients at PHCs, UHCs and wellness centres will be transported to diagnostic centres and the results of tests will be forwarded to TSMSODC office, Hyderabad. Later, they will be forwarded to the respective PHCs, UHCs and wellness centres.
To facilitate transportation of blood samples, these hospitals have been divided into three routes and a vehicle has been assigned for each route, he said. The first route connects Jammukunta, Illandakunta, Veenavanka, Challur, Veldhi and Manakondur while the second covers Sankarapatnam, Saidapur, Huzurabad, Chelpur, Chigurumamidi. The third route comprises Thimmapur. Kothapalli, Gangadhara, Choppadandi, Ramadugu and Gundi.
Six UHCs have to transport samples on their own since they are stationed in Karimnagar town, Dr Sudhakar said, adding that it would be possible to conduct 380 tests with the available equipment. Initially, the hospital will take up 57 tests. Details of patients would be uploaded on department software at PHCs and UHCs level. After receiving samples, they upload the details of patients in the lab’s computer by scanning the barcode pasted on patients’ blood samples.
Later, the samples would be placed in the machines for testing. After completion of tests, the results would automatically be forwarded to the Hyderabad office by machines themselves. Later, the results would be forwarded to the respective PHCs and UHCs, he said.
