Hyderabad: From being denied admission in the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) to triumphing in the university students union president elections, Vikas Porika’s, achievement is nothing short of an extraordinary feat.
In the EFLU Students Union elections held on Tuesday, Vikas, who was presidential candidate of the Democratic Front, secured 434 votes and won the post. His opponent polled 394 votes.
This MA Spanish student from Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, who completed undergraduation from the EFLU, was initially rejected by the university administration for admission to MA Spanish programme in the last academic year due to his student activistism.
“Only because I was actively involved in the student activistism the university denied me admission last year despite securing merit. I wrote the entrance test again and secured the seat this year. I am elated over my win,” Vikas told ‘Telangana Today’.
The new EFLU’s Students Union president, who hails from Lambada community with his family into farming, assured the student community that he would continue to fight on students’ issues.
“ I will ensure that no student in the university faces injustice that was meted out to me,” said Vikas, who is a first generation learner in his family.
