Hyderabad: In a major decision to ensure public health and food safety, it is now mandatory for all food establishments, irrespective of their size, not only in Hyderabad but across the State and country, to display their QR code food licenses in areas that can be easily spotted by customers.

The food safety regulatory authority Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has directed all Food Business Operators (FBOs), including restaurants, dhabas, cafes, and eateries, to display their FSSAI license/registration certificate with the QR code of Food Safety Connect App at all the customer-visible areas, such as entrances, billing counters and even seating areas.

Such a measure is aimed at empowering consumers by providing them with a direct and user-friendly platform for grievance redressal, the food regulatory authority said, adding that it has made the QR code of the Food Safety Connect App available in the front page of the FSSAI License and Registration.

The FSSAI has issued a countrywide advisory, directing FBOs of all sizes to display their QR codes in their premises. Displaying QR codes will go a long way in strengthening food safety surveillance and also empowering consumers, FSSAI said.

Displaying QR codes is in compliance with Condition of License number 1 of the FSS (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011. The FBOs have also been asked to feature the QR code or a direct download link for the ‘Food Safety Connect’ app on their digital assets, including websites and online ordering platforms, wherever applicable.

The FSSAI authorities said that the ‘Food Safety Connect’ app, will allow consumers to lodge/report complaints related to food safety and hygiene issues, misleading claims on food products and even access basic information about licensed and registered FBOs and stay informed about FSSAI’s latest food safety initiatives and alerts.

Complaints lodged through the app are automatically routed to the concerned jurisdictional authority, which ensures prompt action and minimizes delays in addressing consumer grievances, FSSAI added.
