An entirely new franchise in the making, Starfield could be this generation’s answer to Mass Effect.

The year 2022 is shaping up to be a year to look forward to for gamers as the sheer number of games lining up for a lunch is overwhelming.
Wading through the reveals, trailers, gameplay footage and speeches has been nothing short of a gargantuan task as the E3 this year had most developer studios out in full force. While Sony as usual was conspicuous with its absence, there was more than enough excitement to keep the eyes of eager gamers peeled.
Let’s take a look at the five most promising announcements from E3 2021.
Starfield: A new RPG from Bethesda, need I say more. From the makers of Elder Scrolls and Fallout comes an RPG on space travel and exploration. An entirely new franchise in the making, Starfield could be this generation’s answer to Mass Effect and so much more if Bethesda’s prowess in making open world RPGS translates. With a dramatic 11.11.22 release date this is going to be Bethesda’s first ever exclusive.
Elden Ring: From the makers of Bloodborne, Dark Souls and Sekiro comes an RPG that is all about scale and grandeur. A game that has lore written by George RR Martin (Game of Thrones anyone?) and an action combat system from some of the best hack n slash game makers in the business, this cannot be passed upon. I was enchanted by the mere mention of a ring, the rest is all bonus. Releasing on January 21, 2022, this could be one of the most awaited games of the new year, if it meets the timeline.
Breath of the Wild 2: A sequel to one of the greatest RPGs ever made, this is a game that attempts to recreate the magic and elevate the playing experience. Its prequel changed the very way in which the RPG genre was designed and thus, expectations with this one are going to be unrealistic. With Nintendo’s track record of exclusive success, this could be another winner in the making. This is expected to launch in 2022, no exact date available.
Avatar Frontiers of Pandora: A tie-in to a movie so long ago, that one must rack their brains to remember James Cameron’s visual extravaganza. Made by Ubisoft, this game could be much more than the usual “game based on a movie”, as the Pandora universe has the terrain and the characters to make a really good video game. However, will this be one is a major question.
Aragami 2: A Game On favourite is receiving a sequel and yes, excitement is the key word here. One of the best stealth-based indies ever made, the sequel only gets more difficult, complicated and expansive. This could be a dark horse and an unexpected showstopper. You could play this as early as September 17, 2021!
The promises have been made and the future beckons, now we wait to see how it all fares.
