Gandhi Medical College student adopts honey badger at Nehru Zoo
A second-year MBBS student from Gandhi Medical College celebrated his 20th birthday by adopting a honey badger for six months at Nehru Zoological Park. The adoption marks the first instance of the species being adopted under the zoo’s programme.

Hyderabad: A second-year MBBS student of Gandhi Medical College, J Rehan Prakash, marked his 20th birthday by adopting a Honey Badger for a period of six months at Nehru Zoological Park on Sunday. This is the first time at zoo that a Honey Badger has been adopted.
Prakash, along with his parents J Muralidhar and J Jyothi, and his friends, presented a cheque of Rs 50,000 to Telangana Zoo Parks Director Dr Sunil S Hiremath towards the adoption and maintenance charges of the animal.
Prakash said he got motivation and inspiration from his father, who is a forest officer, for contributing and participating in wildlife conservation and welfare.
Honey Badger, also known as Ratel, is a mammal found in India, Africa and South West Asia. The zoo is housing this nocturnal animal, primarily a carnivore species, in the Nocturnal Animal house for public display.
