Kothagudem: First Additional District and Sessions Judge of Khammam P Chandra Sekhara Prasad sentenced five ganja smugglers to 10 years imprisonment and along with a fine of Rs. 1 lakh. Five persons, Sona Dode, Raju, Dasarath Lankhani, Raju Sivaram Kedakar and Dhansari Mallya were accused of ganja smuggling in 2019. The then Bhadrachalam town SI B Mahesh arrested them as they were caught smuggling over 37 kg cannabis near Bhadrachalam bus stand, said a statement from police here on Saturday.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Sunil Dutt lauded investigating officers, CI Satyanarayana Reddy and SI Mahesh for presenting evidence to the court to convict the accused in the case. The SP also lauded the public prosecutor Kotha Venkateshwar, court duty officers, constable Muralikrishna and head constable Muttiah.
Dutt said that special measures were being taken to curb cannabis smuggling in the district and strict action would be taken against those caught smuggling the substance.
