Hyderabad: A day after a swollen Musi ran through inhabited areas and wreaked havoc, the flood waters on Sunday started to recede at most places along the river banks.
In the wake of the flooding, several areas, mainly around Chaderghat, were muddy and slushy and piled up with fallen trees and tree branches. A lot of waste that gushed in with the floodwater had inundated several of the houses.
The water receding from homes also left behind the belongings strewn around. Essential commodities, furniture, clothes, and utensils, gas cylinders, cots, and others were spread all over in slush-filled dwellings.
A Shiva temple, which was inundated, was also cleaned by the temple priests in the morning. The hundi and pooja material of the temple were severely affected and the premises were filled with mud and other waste material.
The GHMC sanitation workers on Sunday took up the cleaning of the affected areas and were seen removing debris, silt, and garbage. A senior GHMC official told ‘Telangana Today’ that the cleaning drive would continue until all flood-hit zones were restored to normalcy. “Our workers are also spraying disinfectants to prevent an outbreak of diseases,” he added.
Meanwhile, the workers also took up the cleanup drive for removal of debris and dredging of the Musi River at Moosarambagh Bridge. The GHMC also distributed breakfast to the affected families and special medical teams were deployed in these areas to ensure public health safety and prevent the spread of diseases.
