Hyderabad: This is one room that has walls but no boundaries. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s Room for Kindness at Moosapet might be a four-walled structure, but the aim is to make sure that there are no boundaries to giving.
And since day one, the people of Hyderabad have proved that. There have been no limits on sharing from those who have for those who do not have.
From used computers to brand new blankets, toys, clothes, books and even a gas stove were among those that were donated on the first day after the Mayor G Vijaya Laxmi inaugurated the facility near the GHMC Kukatpally Zonal office in Moosapet on Monday. The doors of the Room of Kindness will be open from 11 am to 3 pm on all working days, officials said.

Citizens can donate clothes, toys, utensils, books and other belongings at the Room, with the needy allowed to take them. The GHMC has placed racks to store the donated material. On Tuesday, the toys flew off the shelves after children staying in the nearby slums saw the Room. The centre was also decked up with balloons to make the ambience cheerful.
A dedicated security guard at this newly inaugurated facility makes it different from the Wall of Kindness facility in different parts of the city and the Give and Share centre near Shilparamam. As the places were not monitored, people started dumping material including broken chairs which cannot be used by the needy.
The Give and Share centre near Shilparamam is one such spot that is crying for attention due to lack of monitoring. GHMC Deputy Commissioner (Moosapet Circle) K Ravi Kumar has instructed the security guard to ensure that only commodities that are in good condition are stocked inside the new Room of Kindness. The guard was strictly instructed to not to accept torn clothes, broken furniture or any belongings in bad shape that cannot be used by the needy.
