Talented and spirited Heer Katara, a student of Gitanjali Devashray, Secunderabad, is a ‘Cuber Girl’. The nine-year-old can solve more than nine different cubes, with constant practice and determination. Her keen interest in solving cubes rose during the last summer when she was bored to bits due to lockdown. She came across ‘The Speed Cubers’ – a short documentary – on Netflix, which she found out to be very interesting. The documentary inspired her to pick up a Rubik’s Cube and have a go at it. Her mother also enrolled her in an online Rubik’s class, which took her interest to the next level.
She first learned to solve the 3*3 cube online, and with a great amount of practice, she could solve it within a minute. She picked up other cubes like the 2*2, 4*4, Pyramid Cube, Mirror Cube, Skewb, Void, Magic Ball and 3*2. She could solve all of these with continuous practice. She keeps a timer while solving the cubes, which keeps her motivated to break her previous record. She aims to solve the cubes blindfolded and to solve two cubes independently in each hand.
Heer has reached a stage where toys do not matter to her anymore – what matters to her is only the Rubik’s Cube. She asserts that she has Rubik’s in her middle name – Hee*RUBIK*atara. She is thankful to her parents to help her enroll in such an interesting activity.
