Hyderabad: Upset over lack of facilities, the students of Government Medical College (GMC), Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, have written to authorities on multiple deficiencies in the State-run medical college.
In a letter addressed to the District Collector, the students said classes were not being held due to lack of faculty and they do not have access to cadaver bodies for practical training. They also complained of vital medical departments not yet established and lack of proper sanitation.
“There are no regular classes going on, as there are no Professors, Assistant Professors, Associate Professors, HODs, qualified lab technicians etc. We don’t have enough equipment for our lab practical and still haven’t received a cadaver for our practical training. As per guidelines, we have to receive at least 8 cadaver bodies for dissection classes,” they said.
There are no doctors, no proper equipment and even proper facilities to conduct classes and practical classes, the students said adding, “Without practical knowledge, there is no use of MBBS degree. We don’t have vital medical departments including Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dermatology and Ophthalmology. After the tenure period, the Post Graduates and Senior Residents, who are currently teaching us, will also have to leave”.
There was no sanitation in classrooms and washrooms in the college and not a single dustbin has been provided. “There are several government medical colleges that started with us in 2023 but are well established and have full faculty,” students complained.
