Hyderabad: GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHIAL) has officially commissioned its state-of-the-art Cargo Terminal 2, marking a major milestone in the airport’s growth as a premier global logistics hub, a GHIAL press release on Tuesday said.
Spanning 16,864 square metres, the next-generation facility is engineered to meet surging domestic and international demand. It commences operations with an initial handling capacity of 50,000 metric tonnes per annum, with dedicated expansion areas designed to double that capacity to 100,000 metric tonnes.
A flagship feature of the new terminal is its large, fully temperature-controlled pharma and perishable zone. Equipped with advanced temperature cut-off systems and continuous monitoring technology, it ensures end-to-end cold-chain reliability.
The terminal also guarantees streamlined processing, faster regulatory clearances, and significantly reduced cargo dwell times for express consignments and general cargo.
The facility also embeds sustainability into its daily operations, utilising energy-efficient lighting, optimized HVAC design, and intelligent layouts that reduce equipment idling. Additionally, a multi-level fire detection and alarm system ensures top-tier safety.
Commenting on the launch, GHIAL CEO Kadhir Kadhiravan said that the terminal is built to serve demanding cargo verticals with the precision and speed global supply chains require.
Sanjiv Edward, CEO of GMR Aero Cargo and Logistics, said that the launch marks a significant step in strengthening India’s air logistics ecosystem.
