Jagtial: How about walking away with a goat for just Rs 150? Or maybe a carton of beer? As Dasara nears, organisers in parts of Jagtial district are luring people with a rather unusual festive bonanza.
For the price of a single coupon, residents are promised a shot at winning bumper prizes—goats, beer cartons, liquor bottles, chickens, sarees and more. The coupons, priced at Rs 150, are being sold aggressively both offline and through social media promotions, complete with flashy flex boards.
The draw is scheduled for October 1, with the organisers announcing their quirky prize list. The first prize is a goat, while the second prize is a beer carton. The third prize is a liquor bottle, while the fourth is a hen, and a single beer bottle is the fifth prize.
Organisers say non-vegetarian food and liquor are “must-haves” for Dasara festivities, and their prize scheme reflects just that. An organiser from Sarangapur mandal has already started selling the coupons.
Police, however, view such lucky draws with suspicion as they call the practice illegal. Last year, Rajanna-Sircilla district police booked ten organisers for duping unsuspecting buyers with similar festive schemes.
For now, in Jagtial, it’s goats, beer and chickens that have become the talking point of Dasara season.
