Siddipet: While most government schools in the State were finding it difficult to maintain minimum admissions, the Indira Nagar Public School, a government school in Siddipet town, has continued to receive a huge number of applications from both government and private school students every year.
The management has continued conducting a screening test for the third consecutive year to provide admissions into 6th class and a few vacant seats in 8th class. The test was conducted on the school premises on Wednesday. A total of 691 students took the examination for 180 seats available in 6th class and 40 seats in 8th class.
Interestingly, students from Bodhan in Nizamabad district, Shivvampet in Medak district and different places in Sangareddy district travelled long distances to appear for the entrance examination. Even though Headmaster A Raja Prabhakar Reddy advised parents who came from far-off places not to take the examination since there was no hostel facility, they still accompanied their children to the examination. The parents wanted to admit their wards in a local private hostel if they secured a seat in the school.
Interestingly, nearly 360 of the 691 students who appeared for the examination were from private schools. Since the school has ultra-modern facilities and quality teachers, it has been producing excellent results in 10th class over the years, prompting many parents to admit their wards to the school. As many as 251 of 259 students passed the 10th class examination this year, while one student topped the school with 576 marks. Continuing its previous record, as many as 15 students from Indira Nagar school secured seats in IIIT-Basara this year.
Speaking to Telangana Today, Headmaster Prabhakar Reddy said many students were seeking admission to the school because of its quality teachers and modern infrastructure. Former Minister T Harish Rao had made special efforts to develop the school. He helped the school management establish a computer lab, science lab, library and several other facilities over the years. Rao has also been presenting iPads to students who secured seats in IIIT-Basara.
