Khammam: A government teacher with hearing impairment and known for developing innovative gadgets has made a safety cap that helps people with complete hearing loss by detecting sounds and alerting them to avoid possible danger.
The sensing mechanism in the cap detects sounds with an intensity of more than 75 decibels and warns the wearer through a vibration mechanism fitted in the cap. It is helpful for elderly or medically impaired people whose hearing ability decreases with age to be safe on roads and in public places. Explaining the functioning of the safety cap, the teacher, Shaik Rajalipasha, informed Telangana Today that a microphone installed in the hat receives sound waves from the surroundings and converts those waves into electrical signals.
These signals are analysed by a small circuit. If the intensity exceeds the 75 decibel limit, the circuit turns on a vibration motor, which is mounted around the hat, creates a vibration on the head and gives a tactile alert to the wearer about the danger. Since those with hearing impairment cannot hear vehicle horns, sirens or heavy machinery sounds on the road or at the workplace, the safety cap gives independence and security in their daily lives.
“I wish to make life better and easier for people who have hearing impairment like me with my innovations,” said Rajalipasha, who hails from Subhash Nagar of Yellandu in Kothagudem district.
Further, one can also listen to others’ words like a hearing aid by pinning a micro in-ear speaker in the hat, explained Rajalipasha, who teaches social studies and works as headmaster at Government Upper Primary School at Pedda Thanda of Singareni mandal in Khammam district.
It may be recalled that Rajalipasha earlier developed a safety helmet for deaf and mute people and a multi-satellite signal receiving antenna to make many educational television channels available to students at government schools. He received the Rural Innovator Award from the State government twice on January 26, 2024 and January 26, 2025, besides the Telangana State Invention Cell Appreciation Certificate in August 2023. He was selected from Telangana to participate in People’s Festival of Innovation (PFI) 2023 in New Delhi.
