Sangareddy: A government school at Bandham Kommu in Ameenpur mandal was rented out to a private school to organise its annual day celebrations on Sunday, in violation of official guidelines.
The headmistress of the Mandal Parishad Upper Primary School (MPUPS), Padmavathi, permitted Early Budzz School, a private institution operating in the same locality, to hold its annual day on the government school premises. The private school management erected banners and hoardings around the campus to promote its brand and attract admissions. A large number of students and parents attended the event.
The move has drawn criticism as the headmistress had no authority to allow the use of government school premises for private purposes. The event was attended by BJP MP M Raghunandan Rao as chief guest.
While MPUPS has an enrolment of 168 students, Early Budzz School, which runs classes up to Class V, has around 190 students. The development has raised concerns as Health Minister Damodara Rajanarasimha had launched the Badi Bata programme at the same MPUPS last year to boost enrolment in government schools.
Mandal Education Officer Sudhakar told Telangana Today that the headmistress had no authority to rent out school premises and had not even informed him about the decision.
