Medak: In fulfilment of a vow made ahead of the gram panchayat elections, a man turned beggar and sought rice as alms from villagers at Jhansi Lingapur in Ramayampet mandal on Saturday.
Manegalla Bhaskar undertook the act after his father, Manegalla Ramakrishnaiah, was elected sarpanch of the village in the first phase of elections held on December 14.
Bhaskar had earlier visited the Ganagapur Dattatreya Temple and vowed to perform annadhana there by collecting rice from villagers if his father emerged victorious.
Interestingly, Ramakrishnaiah defeated his own son Venkatesh by a margin of 99 votes. Bhaskar, the younger son, supported his father and campaigned actively for his victory.
As part of the vow, Bhaskar went door to door in the village, seeking rice as alms. He said the rice collected would be used for annadhana at the Ganagapur temple in the coming days.
Bhaskar said he was fulfilling the vow with faith, adding that he believed his father’s victory was possible due to the blessings of Lord Dattatreya.
