Replying to questions raised during the Question Hour in the Assembly on Tuesday, Srinivas Reddy stated that currently Telangana has 33 districts, 76 revenue divisions and 621 mandals. He said proposals were received for 11 new revenue divisions of which preliminary notifications were issued for four and one proposal pertaining to Alair revenue division was under consideration.
However, several legislators from both the Congress, the BRS and the BJP sought creation of new revenue divisions and new mandals. In response, the Minister assured to discuss the issue in the Cabinet and examine their feasibility including creation of revenue divisions of Cheryala, Dharmapuri, Wardhannapet, Boath, Jadcherla, Khanapur, Makthal, and Atmakur as well as mandals of Ingurthy, Malegaon, Beltaroda, Thattepalli, Thadkal, Narayankhed and Manneguda among others.
In response to another question, Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar stated that the construction of proposed RTC depot in Chennur was stalled due to a stay order from the High Court of Telangana, with regard to land allotted to the TGSRTC. He said the work would resume after the High Court vacates the stay and assured to examine the feasibility of new RTC depots, bus stands and bus services, following requests from MLAs.
The Minister also informed that the State government was planning to introduce more electric buses in the State especially Hyderabad to mitigate air pollution. While 251 electric buses were in operation in Hyderabad, Karimnagar and Nizamabad, he said plans were afoot to induct 3,153 new electric buses including 353 in the first phased by March next year.
