Habitual offender who stabbed cop arrested in Telangana’s Khammam, property worth Rs 45 lakh seized

Khammam: A property offender who started committing thefts to buy a saree worth Rs 300 for his mother took the tally to 90 cases within no time in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh until he was caught by Khammam Police.

The accused, Tiruvidhula Surender, a habitual property offender of Chithapur village of Chatrai mandal in Eluru district of AP, was caught while he was hiding in a funeral ground at Kothuru village of Sathupally mandal in the district on Tuesday.

Surrender was accused of stabbing a constable M Naresh Kumar six times at Sathupally bus stand on March 10, in a bid to escape from the constable by killing him. Being a tech savvy offender, he used offline Google maps to commit offences and usually mapped the houses he selected to rob.

Speaking to the media at Sathupally, Commissioner of Police Sunil Dutt informed that the accused usually took shelter in burial grounds and used to hide the stolen property in the same. He was convicted in a case in Challapalli police station and was released on bail on November 24.

Soon after release from the jail, he committed 43 offences in seven districts of AP and Telangana in a span of three months. Police seized property worth Rs 45 lakh, including one mobile phone, two motorbikes and Rs 3.33 lakh cash, related to the 43 cases from the accused.

The CP appreciated Sathupally Inspector of Police, T Kiran, constables T Kavitha, M Naresh Kumar and M Srinivas for nabbing the accused. Kallur ACP Raghu and others were present.
