Sangareddy: Haridaspur Gram Panchayath in Kondapur Mandal, which was in news for their work in supporting the girl children, has got a rare honour from the Ministry of Women and Child Welfare of the Telangana government. To mark International Women’s Day, the government has decided to give Rs one lakh cash prize to the Gram Panchayat to boost their efforts in supporting the parents of the girl children. Haridaspur has started opening Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) accounts on the names of girl children in the village by paying the first five installments (RS 1,000 per girl child). Since January 2020, the Panchayat led by Sarpanch MD Shafi and Secretary Rohit Kulkarni have opened SSY accounts on the name of 85 girl children.
Apart from that, the Gram Panchayat illuminates the Panchayat buildings whenever a woman gives birth to girl children in the village. The Panchayat will felicitate the mothers of girl children and distributes sweets to them besides opening the SSY accounts, which will give financial security to the girl children. Following the footsteps of Haridaspur, several villages opened SSY accounts on the name of girl children in the Sangareddy district. The efforts drew state and national level.
Speaking to Telangana Today Secretary Kulkarni said that such honours will motivate them to take more such works in the future. On the eve of International Women’s Day, the Sarpanch and Secretary will receive the prize money and felicitation from the ministry during a programme at Ravindra Bharathi on Tuesday.
