Hyderabad: T Harish Rao, BRSLP deputy leader, blamed the Congress government for the death of retired AR Sub-Inspector K Maisaiah from Khammam district.

Stating that non-payment of retirement dues and neglect of police welfare pushed the family into distress, where Maisaiah could not even afford treatment for his illness, which ultimately led to his death, he demanded immediate release of all pending dues and special ex gratia to the bereaved family. He also sought government-funded treatment for Maisaiah’s wife, who is reportedly undergoing medical care in Hyderabad.

In a statement, Harish Rao said Maisaiah, who retired in February last year, was yet to receive nearly Rs 60 lakh in pending arrears. The former police officer struggled to meet hospital expenses, and fellow retired personnel had to pool money to transport his body home, he said, adding that both retired and serving police personnel were facing hardships.

Leave surrender encashment bills were not being cleared, depriving staff of legitimate financial benefits. He said the Health Security scheme for police families had weakened, making access to private medical care difficult.

Harish Rao also raised concerns over the alleged non-release of station maintenance funds, stating that officers were forced to spend from their own pockets to run police stations. Calling Maisaiah’s case a warning sign, he demanded immediate clearance of pending dues to retired employees and restoration of welfare measures for the police force.
