Hyderabad: Former Minister and senior BRS leader T Harish Rao condemned the suspension of 163 Agricultural Extension Officers (AEOs) for refusing to comply with the government’s digital survey mandate. He urged the State government for their immediate reinstatement and avoid burdening AEOs with additional responsibilities.
In a statement, Harish Rao pointed out that in other States like Maharashtra, Odisha, and Karnataka, digital surveys are managed by private companies or outsourced staff. “In Telangana, it is unjust to force AEOs into this role, causing unnecessary harassment,” he said.
The BRS MLA pointed out the key role played by AEOs in agricultural development of Telangana. The State had created 1,500 new AEO positions to drive agricultural growth, with these officers significantly contributing to Telangana becoming an agricultural leader. He expressed disappointment with the Congress government’s harsh treatment of such valuable staff. “Suspending AEOs for disobedience shows poor governance. Is this how public administration should function?” he questioned, demanding the government lift the suspensions immediately and adopt a more employee-friendly approach.
