Siddipet: BRS Legislative Party deputy leader T Harish Rao filed a writ petition in the High Court on Wednesday seeking justice for those who were denied a loan waiver by the State government in his constituency. Stating that as many as 22,849 farmers, which amounts to nearly 53 per cent of the total eligible farmers in the Siddipet Assembly constituency, did not get the loan waiver, Rao said that he approached the court seeking the immediate release of the loan waiver.
He said that only 47 per cent (20,514) of the farmers in his constituency got the Rs 2 lakh loan waiver, while the remaining were denied the benefit without any reason. As the government failed to respond to his pleas even after his repeated open letters to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on the issue, the BRS leader said he decided to take the issue to court.
He said that the farmers had cleared their bank loans by borrowing from private lenders as the government had asked them to clear their bank dues to get the waiver. However, Rao said that the farmers were struggling to repay the loans borrowed from private lenders as the government went back on its promise. He alleged that farmer suicides have increased considerably due to the government’s decision. Rao approached the court seeking justice for all these farmers under Article 226 of the Indian Constitution.
