Hyderabad: BRS Legislature Party deputy leader T Harish Rao questioned the Congress government’s claims on agricultural spending, with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka citing different figures at the Rythu Ashirvada Sabha held in Hyderabad on Tuesday. He accused Revanth Reddy of diverting attention from the government’s alleged failure to implement the Six Guarantees and other election promises by holding publicity events in the name of farmers.
In a statement, Harish Rao pointed out that while Bhatti Vikramarka claimed that Rs 1.56 lakh crore had been spent on farmers, Revanth Reddy put the figure at Rs 1.75 lakh crore. He questioned how the government could claim such expenditure when the total budget allocation for the agriculture sector in 2026-27 was around Rs 82,000 crore. He alleged that the conflicting figures were intended to mislead farmers.
Harish Rao accused the Congress government of reneging on its promise of a Rs 2 lakh farm loan waiver. Responding to Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao’s remarks that the farm loan waiver was being restricted to short-term loans, he said no such condition was mentioned in the party’s election manifesto.
Demanding that the government implement its promises instead of launching publicity campaigns, he asserted that the BRS was prepared to expose the government’s alleged failure to honour its commitments to farmers on any public platform. He said farmers were ready to teach the Congress a lesson for what he described as its deceit.
