Hyderabad: Former Minister and BRS leader T Harish Rao criticised the Congress government for adopting double standards in handling structural issues at the Medigadda barrage and Sunkishala project.
In a strongly worded statement, Harish Rao said the government was ignoring the collapse of the Sunkishala project’s retaining wall despite evident structural concerns, while politicising damage to two piers of the Medigadda barrage and stalling its repair.
He questioned the lack of any expert committee probe, Vigilance Commission inquiry, judicial commission or National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) involvement in the Sunkishala incident. “Why this silence on Sunkishala, but a circus around Medigadda?” he asked, alleging selective action for one and political vendetta for the other.
The BRS leader pointed out that only two piers were damaged at Medigadda and that several engineering bodies, including the NDSA, had recommended immediate repairs. The construction agency too had reportedly expressed willingness to undertake the work. However, he said, the Congress government was deliberately delaying the repairs to malign the BRS and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.
“In the case of Sunkishala, the government is rushing to fix the issue to avoid embarrassment. But at Medigadda, where Telangana’s irrigation future is at stake, they are playing politics,” Rao said.
He alleged that the Congress government was prioritising political gain over the State’s interests and farmers’ welfare, describing this as a hallmark of what he called its “anti-people, anti-farmer, opposition harassment” governance.
