Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao said the electorate in Haryana decisively rejected the Congress party’s latest attempt to win votes through its ‘seven guarantees’. He attributed the Congress’s defeat to its persistent failures in governance across States like Telangana, Karnataka, and Himachal Pradesh, emphasising that voters are no longer easily deceived by false promises.
The Congress has proven itself incapable of effectively opposing the BJP without the support of robust regional parties, he said, predicting a significant rise in the influence of regional parties in the 2029 elections. “Strong regional parties will be pivotal in shaping the next Central government,” he asserted.
In a statement here on Monday, Rama Rao said the results from Haryana served as a clear mandate against Congress’s misleading strategies. The Congress, which deceived voters in Karnataka with five guarantees and in Telangana with six, had faced a backlash for attempting to entice Haryana voters with yet another set of unfulfilled assurances. “The people of Haryana gave the Congress party a much-deserved slap in the face, indicating that people of this nation can see through the deception,” he remarked.
The BRS working president criticised the Congress for its inability to deliver on promises, noting that this disillusionment was reflected in the recent electoral outcomes. “All the people cannot be fooled all the time. They will ultimately come to their senses and realise deceitful tactics,” he stated.
Suggesting that Rahul Gandhi had become a liability for the Congress, he said the BJP was winning elections in the State where it has a direct face off with the Congress, rather than a regional party. “The disconnect between promises and delivery under his leadership is leading to consistent electoral setbacks for the party,” he remarked, urging Rahul Gandhi to acknowledge the electorate’s grievances, particularly the party’s double standards with regard to issues such as Bulldozer Raj and MLA poaching.
“The Congress party should remember that its guarantee cards, filled with hollow promises, are now seen as outdated,” he said, adding that the failures of the Congress would continue to haunt the party, especially as voters prepare for the upcoming Assembly elections in States like Maharashtra.
Calling for intellectuals and citizens who value federalism, integrity, and secularism to rally behind regional parties, he said the message from Haryana was clear, that the era of deceitful politics was over and that the electorate demands accountability and genuine governance.
