Heavy rains cheer farmers in Mancherial, Asifabad

Mancherial and Kumram Bheem Asifabad districts received moderate to heavy rains, bringing relief to farmers worried about crop damage due to a prolonged dry spell. Despite rainfall deficits compared to normal averages, the showers revived hopes for paddy, cotton, and soyabean cultivation.

Mancherial: Both Mancherial and Kumram Bheem Asifabad districts saw moderate to heavy rains from Monday night to Tuesday morning, cheering farmers.

According to a weather report on the website of Telangana State Development Planning Society (TGDPS), the average rainfall of Mancherial district was 58.4 mm, while Thandur mandal headquarters recorded the highest rainfall in Telangana by 120 mm. While Bellampalli mandal registered 119 mm of rainfall, Kotapalli mandal centre had 105.6 mm of rainfall.


Kannepalli, Vemanapalli, Bheemini, Chennur, Kasipet, Nennal, Jaipur and Bheemaram mandals witnessed anywhere between 40 mm and 94.8 mm. The actual rainfall of the district was 281 mm as against the normal rainfall of 371.4 mm from June 1 to July 21, showing a deficit by 24 mm.

Meanwhile, Kumram Bheem Asifabad’s average rainfall was 32.6 mm. While Rebbena mandal recorded the highest rainfall by 68.5 mm, Tiryani mandal had 68.5 mm of rainfall. Penchikalpet, Asifabad, Kagaznagar, Koutala, Wankidi, Jainoor, Kerameri and Bejjur mandals experienced anywhere between 22 mm and 46 mm of rainfall.

The actual rainfall of the district was measured to be 328 mm when compared to 420 mm, reflecting a deficit by 22 percent. Farmers expressed delight over the rains. They said that the rains could prevent paddy, cotton, soy and other crops from getting withered. They were earlier anxious over a prolonged dry spell.
