Hyderabad: In the early hours of Sunday, several areas in Hyderabad experienced heavy rains. Colonies and roads were inundated, disrupting daily life. Residents reported waterlogging in several places, with traffic movement severely affected.

Flooding was reported in residential areas of Khairatabad, Punjagutta, Yousufguda, Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Borabanda, Ameerpet, S R Nagar, Himayatnagar, Narayanaguda, Bharatnagar, Begumpet, Rasoolpura, Marredpally, Bowenpally, Yapral, Vanasthalipuram, Madhapur, and other locations.

Significant traffic jams were reported on all major roads in the city from early hours due to the influx of returnees from Dussera holidays. Key routes, including L B Nagar, Dilsukh Nagar, Abids, Lakdi-ka-pul, Punjagutta, Secunderabad Railway Station Road, Begumpet, Kukatpally, Nizampet, Miyapur, Hi-Tech City, Madhapur, Gachibowli, and Manikonda, experienced considerable congestion caused by the heightened volume of vehicles.

Commuters reported delays of up to several hours during peak times as Dussera festivities concluded and people returned home. Traffic cops on morning duties took necessary measures to manage the flow.

The surge in traffic was attributed to the widespread celebrations of Dussera, a major festival that saw a large number of individuals traveling to and from various destinations. Hydraa teams and traffic cops jointly monitored the situation closely to ensure smooth transit for all road users.

The Hydraa and HMWSSB deployed their teams to clear blocked drains and assist stranded commuters.

Heavy rain dampens city park activity

On Sundays, all major parks, including KBR Park, Jalagam Vengalrao Park, Krishna Kanth Park, KLN Yadav Park, and parks located in the residential colonies, in the city, usually witnessed hundreds of morning walkers and yoga practitioners, but due to heavy downpour, a low turnout was seen. The walkers’ number was confined to double digits only.
