Heavy rains force closure of schools in Nirmal, Adilabad and Asifabad
Heavy rains in Telangana forced the closure of schools and Anganwadi centres in Nirmal, Adilabad, and Kumram Bheem Asifabad on Thursday. District collectors issued alerts, warning of flooding as NDRF teams remained on standby and several low-lying areas were inundated.

Adilabad: Following a heavy rainfall forecast by the Telangana Development Planning Society, educational institutions and Anganwadi centres in Nirmal, Adilabad and Kumram Bheem Asifabad districts remained closed on Thursday.
Collectors Abhilasha Abhinav, Rajarshi Shah and Venkatesh Dothre issued separate statements in the three districts declaring a holiday for schools, colleges and Anganwadi centres considering the weather warnings. They also urged the public to remain cautious of flooding and avoid venturing outdoors unless necessary.
Abhilasha said victims of the rains could report grievances to the control room at 91005 77132 set up at the Integrated District Officers Complex. She added that Reserve Force, TSSP Battalion and NDRF teams were on standby to tackle floods and evacuate people to safer places. Preventive measures were directed to be taken by officials.
Rajarshi Shah advised the public to contact 1800 425 1939 for rain-related issues, while Venkatesh asked residents to dial 85008 44365 for assistance. They warned fishermen against venturing into swollten rivulets and streams and urged rural residents not to cross overflowing bridges.
Nirmal district recorded an average rainfall of 133 mm, with Nirmal rural mandal registering the highest at 303 mm, followed by Laxmanachanda mandal with 218 mm. Narsapur (G), Soan, Kuntala, Lokeshwaram, Sarangapur and Dilawarpur mandals recorded between 125 mm and 208 mm.
Adilabad district’s average rainfall stood at 55.4 mm, with Jainad mandal receiving the highest at 110 mm. Kumram Bheem Asifabad district registered an average rainfall of 68.5 mm, with Rebbena mandal receiving 154 mm and Jainoor mandal 120 mm.
Meanwhile, several low-lying areas in Nirmal town, including Bangalpet, Naidupet, Sofinagar, Nagarajnagar, Subhashnagar, Priyadarshininagar and Ashraya Colony, were inundated, forcing residents to leave their homes on Wednesday. In Laxmanachanda mandal, three shepherds stranded in a flooding stream were rescued by locals.
