Tirumala: Thanks to the lifting of curbs due to COVID, there is a steady flow of pilgrims to the Tirumala temple after a lapse of two years.
A record number of 75,704 devotees visited the Sri Venkateswara temple here on Friday while 33,187 devotees made the offering of tonsure and the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) announced a hundi collection was Rs.3.67 crore.
During COVID times since March 2020, there were restrictions on entry of devotees to Tirumala and the officials also issued only a limited number of tickets. However, the flow of devotees increased for the past four days with the TTD deciding to allow in excess of 75,000 devotees daily to the temple by issuing 20,000 Sarva Darshan and 25,000 special darshan tokens besides virtual seva tickets and VIP early darshan tickets.
With the sudden rush to Tirumala, devotees experienced accommodation problems, particularly due renovation work taken up with respect to 1500 cottages, notwithstanding the fact only those with tickets were allowed beyond Alipiri point uphill. Most of the devotees who could not get tickets stayed back in Tirupati, while even those who got Sarva Darshan tokens had to wait for about three days downhill in Tirupati before proceeding to Tirumala.
