Telangana
WWF India’s Hyderabad Office announced its initiative with Heartfulness Institute to adopt 50,000 trees at Kanha Shantivanam, the global headquarters of Heartfulness, in Hyderabad.
This initiative is part of WWF India’s Sustainable Trees program and Heartfulness’s Green Kanha mission. Under this programme, WWF India is funding the maintenance and growth of these trees along with monitoring the progress of plantation.
WWF-India’s Sustainable Trees campaign is an initiative to plant native indigenous tree species across India involving school and college students, grassroots organisations and concerned citizens.
Madhya Pradesh
India’s cleanest city, Indore in Madhya Pradesh, has now been declared as India’s first water plus city under the Swachh Survekshan 2021. Indore has become example for whole nation for its determination and dedication towards cleanliness. Indore City received this certification from

central government on August 11, 2021. Swachh Survekshan is an annual survey of cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation across cities and towns in India. It was launched under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. This abhiyan was started with the aim of making India clean and free of open defecation by October 2, 2019. The first survey was done in 2016 and covered 73 cities.
Haryana/ Gujarat
Four more Indian sites — two each from Haryana and Gujarat — have been recognised as wetlands of international importance under the Ramsar Convention, taking the number of such sites in the country to 46, the Union Environment Ministry said. For the first time, two wetlands

in Haryana — Sultanpur National Park in Gurgaon and Bhindawas Wildlife Sanctuary in Jhajjar — have been included in the Ramsar list. The Ramsar Convention is an international treaty for the conservation and wise use of wetlands. It is named after the Iranian city of Ramsar, on the Caspian Sea, where the treaty was signed on February 2, 1971.
Tamil Nadu
In sync with its poll promise, the DMK government presented a budget in the Tamil Nadu Assembly exclusively for agriculture featuring schemes for the overall development of the farm sector, including one for self-sufficiency and farm growth in villages. Presenting the budget,

Minister for agriculture and farmer’s welfare, M R K Panneerselvam said the views of farmers and experts were sought and the budget was prepared based on their views. The State government announced a tax cut of Rs three on petrol per litre and held the Centre responsible for increase in the cost of fuel .
Himachal Pradesh
Death toll continues to mount at Kinnaur where a tragic landslide on August 11 led to death and devastation. 14 people are now confirmed dead, with rescue operation resuming early on Thursday (August 12). Four more bodies were recovered and 16 people are still missing,

Himachal Pradesh CM Jai Ram Thakur told the state Assembly after returning from the landslide site near Chaura village on the National Highway 5 in the Nigulsari of Nichar tehsil. So far, 13 people have been rescued. They were admitted to a Bhawanagar community health centre (CHC) for treatment on Wednesday.
