Hyderabad: You might have heard about the longest flights, but do you know there exist many shortest flights too. There is one such shortest regular commercial flight in the World that connects two of the Orkney Islands, Scotland. The travel time is less than the time you take to adjust in a flight, that is 90 seconds literally!
The flight runs between Westray Airport and Papa Westray Airport and is operated by the Scottish regional airline Loganair.
The total distance covered by the flight is 1.7 miles (2.7 km), which is about the same length as the runway at Edinburgh Airport.
Loganair operates this flight with one of its two Britten-Norman Islander aircraft. It is flown by a single pilot, and there is seating for eight passengers in the passenger cabin
Westray to Papa Westray (Scotland)
A narrow stretch of water separates the Orkney islands of Westray and Papa Westray, off the north coast of Scotland. Scottish airline Loganair has been running an air bridge between these two tiny Scottish islands for around 50 years, making it the shortest nonstop regular flight anywhere in the world.
The flight, operated by a Britten-Norman Islander eight-seater aircraft, takes just over a minute, but on occasions has been as short as 53 seconds, depending on tail wind.
This route is used mainly by the people of the Orkney Islands going about their daily routines, it is also a keen route for tourists and aviation enthusiasts.
