Hyderabad: Of the many wrongdoings that he is accused of, Microsoft founder Bill Gates is being pulled up by Twitterati in India now for allegedly funding a progamme of testing and sterilizing indigenous vaccines on tribal children through his NGO Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) in 2009.

#ArrestBillGates in trending on Twitter as some claim that BMGF conducted an unauthorised clinical trial of a vaccine on some of the poorest tribal children, without the consent of their parents.

According to a GreatGameIndia report, a Seattle-based NGO, Program for Appropriate Technology in Health (PATH), with the help of funding by BMGF, executed a project to administer the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine to 14,000 tribal girls of 10-14 years of age in 2009 in Telangana’s Khammam.

The reports also suggest that many had fallen ill and four of the girls who got even died after being injected with Gardasil without their families knowing about the children being administered with it. It is believed that most of the girls’ parents had no idea about the trials as the girls lived in government-run hostels.

The GreatGameIndia article “How Bill Gates Funded NGO PATH Killed Tribal Girls In India In Unauthorised Clinical Trials” which came out on May 25 is now widely shared and many are seeking Bill Gates’ arrest citing the article.
