Hyderabad: There is a large cohort of Covid-19 positive individuals with mild symptoms and asymptomatic cases who are under home isolation across the State. As a result, it has become mandatory for such patients to take precautions during home isolation and self-monitor vital parameters to avoid the progression of the disease.
The fever survey and Covid OPs across Telangana are based on identifying symptomatic individuals at the earliest and starting the treatment that will reduce the demand for oxygen and ventilators. As a result, patients adhering to the prescribed treatment have become vital.
Taking precautions during home isolation, especially in slum settlements and densely populated colonies in Hyderabad and other major urban cities could pose difficulties to patients and their family members. Given these difficulties, public health specialists and district health authorities have urged home isolation patients to be cautious and advised them to be in touch with a general practitioner for guidance.
To ensure early detection, the district health authorities have urged the general practitioners in local clinics and nursing homes to quickly initiate the treatment based on the typical Covid symptoms. However, patients, on their part must also realise that their quick recovery depends on adherence to the advice of the local GP, ASHA, ANMs and medical officers who visit their homes during the field visits.
“Monitoring breathing difficulties and temperature is important. Oxymeters to measure oxygen saturation are available at affordable prices. Those who can’t afford to purchase, can follow a simple method of walking normally for six minutes and then figure out whether they can breathe easily. If they have difficulty in breathing, then they must quickly realise that it is time for them to contact a doctor,” health officials advise.
During a recent interaction with presspersons, Secretary, Health, Medical and Family Welfare, Syed Ali Murtaza Rizvi also urged the home isolation patients to call the nearest government call centre (040-21111111 in GHMC) and seek guidance and not allow negligence to creep in, which could complicate their recovery.
