Hyderabad: From technology-based jobs to non-technology jobs, supply of freshers is ruling the roost. As per data findings by Indeed, the number of freshers seeking or searching for jobs has increased by 30 per cent from October 2020 to October 2021. On the other hand, the job posting for young graduates has seen a decrease of 18 per cent for the same period.

In terms of the kind of jobs that have seen an increase, the findings indicate that non-IT jobs like customer service representative, sales executive, business development executive and marketing and sales roles along with blue-collar jobs like delivery personnel, shop floor assistants, delivery boys saw an increase in demand.

“All this suggests that there is a rising talent supply in a declining job market. However, the numbers are expected to increase in the upcoming year on the back of robust vaccination and India Inc’s preparedness to handle the pandemic better,” the survey findings reported.

Indeed’s data also suggested that the demand from employers declines towards the end of the year due to consolidation of the workforce and New Year planning. A similar scenario occurred in January 2021, when hiring for fresher roles increased by 34 per cent due to ease in Covid restrictions that allowed the economy to re-open after the first wave.

“While the country’s economy is picking up momentum, recovering from the second wave of the pandemic and general boom in IT and technology sectors, it’s interesting to note that the positions are being filled slower than expected in the IT/ITeS sector. Sectors such as e-commerce, FMCG, healthcare, and home services empowered with mass vaccinations are strengthening their workforce.” Sashi Kumar, head of sales, Indeed India.
