Warangal: Rich tributes were paid to former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao on the occasion of his 17th death anniversary in erstwhile Warangal district.
TRS MLA from Husnabad constituency Vodithela Satish Babu, Hanamkonda Zilla Parishad chairman Dr Sudheer Kumar, senior journalist and PV’s relative PV Madanmohan Rao garlanded Narasimha Rao’s statue at JNS grounds near Hanamkonda bus station. “The economic reforms implemented by Narasimha Rao when he was Prime Minister placed the nation on the development track,” they said, and pointed out that land reforms in Telangana when PV was Chief Minister had helped the poor own lands.
A memorial meeting was held at PVNR’s native village Vangara in Bheemadevarapally mandal in Hanamkonda. MLA Satish Babu, ZP Chairman Sudheer Kumar, PVNR’s museum incharge Laksmikantha Rao, and villagers in good numbers attended the programme, and also visited the museum.
At Laknepally village, which is Narasimha Rao’s maternal grandmother’s home near Narsampet in Warangal, MLA Peddi Sudharshan Reddy and other TRS leaders participated in memorial meeting and offered tributes to the ‘architect of modern India’.
“Narasimha Rao was a great leader who enjoyed the support of all the people of the country. We should feel proud that he hails from our region. He was not only a statesman, but also a scholar who mastered many languages and expressed his ideas and ideals through ‘The Insider’ novel,” Reddy said.
“PV was instrumental in establishing Navodaya Schools which are helping many poor students to get good quality education,” the MLA said and added that the TRS government had identified Laknepally for PV Memorial Centre and allocated funds.
