Karimnagar: Demand for another separate district has come to the fore following the State government’s reported move to undertake district reorganisation.
After Manthani, a call for a separate district for Huzurabad emerged. This however, is not a new issue, as people of Huzurabad had launched an agitation for a separate district at the time of the creation of new districts in 2016.
Now, with the government’s decision to reorganise districts once again, local people have resumed the agitation for carving out a Huzurabad PV district along with 13 mandals located in surrounding areas and adjacent districts.
They have demanded the formation of a new district comprising mandals such as Shankarapatnam, Saidapur, Jammikunta, Ellandakunta and Veenavanka from Karimnagar district, Kamalapur, Elkathurthy and Bheemadevarapalli from Hanamkonda district, and Tekumatla, Mogullapalli and Chityala mandals from Jayashankar-Bhupalapally district.
As former Prime Minister late PV Narasimha Rao hailed from Vangara village in Bheemadevarapalli mandal, they have sought that the new district be named Huzurabad PV Zilla.
People under the aegis of the ‘Huzurabad PV Zilla Sadhana Samithi’ JAC are continuing their agitation. On Saturday, JAC leaders observed a one-day hunger strike at Ambedkar Chowk in Huzurabad town.
Speaking on the occasion, JAC convener Bimoju Sadanandam said Huzurabad had both geographical and administrative eligibility for being carved out a separate district.
He said the previous government had created districts with smaller areas than Huzurabad due to various reasons, including administrative ease. He demanded that the government create a new district with 13 mandals and also announce Challalluru, Vavilala and Uppal as mandals. Besides, Jammikunta and Elkathurthy should be made revenue divisions to ensure administrative accessibility.
According to the 2011 Census, the area has a population of over five lakh. Hence, it is necessary to create a separate district for the benefit of the people, he said, adding that the agitation would continue until Huzurabad was declared a separate district.
