HMWSSB on high alert as heavy rains hit Hyderabad, ERTs deployed
As heavy rains continue to pound Hyderabad, the HMWSSB has ramped up emergency measures, deploying response teams and intensifying monitoring of 141 flood-prone hotspots. Officials have been directed to prevent sewer overflows, ensure water quality, and reinforce manhole safety.

Hyderabad: With heavy rains continuing to lash the city, HMWSSB Managing Director K Ashok Reddy directed officials to adopt all necessary precautionary measures and prevent public inconvenience and keep Emergency Response Teams (ERT) on alert.
Officials were instructed to avert sewer overflow issues caused by the rains and to monitor the 141 waterlogging hotspots identified by the GHMC and HYDRAA.
In a press release, the water board said the officials were directed to ensure the quality of drinking water is tested during supply and to take precautions to prevent contamination.
Also, to prevent accidents, safety grills were installed on deep manhole steps taken to regularly reconstruct damaged manholes and covers.
The flood situation in Osman Sagar, Himayat Sagar, and Singur reservoirs is being monitored hourly, and residents in downstream areas are being alerted about the water flow.
HMWSSB warned citizens not to open manhole covers and criminal cases would be filed against violators, if the warning is ignored.
