Hockey star Lalit Upadhyay retires after a decade of glory

Lalit Kumar Upadhyay, one of Indian hockey's most consistent performers, has retired after playing 183 international matches and scoring 67 goals. A two-time Olympic bronze medallist, he also won multiple continental titles and received the Arjuna Award in 2021

HYDERABAD: One of India’s star performers, Lalit Kumar Upadhyay announced his retirement from international hockey after a glorious decade-long journey.

From a small village in Varanasi to the Olympic podium twice, Lalit’s story is one of resilience, pride, and passion.


Some of his career highlights include: Olympic Bronze Medals: Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024, Asian Games gold (2022) and bronze (2018), Commonwealth Games silver (2022), Asia Cup Champion 2017, Asian Champions Trophy gold (2016, 2018) and bronze (2021), FIH World League Final bronze (2017), Champions Trophy silver (2018).

He was also Arjuna Awardee in 2021 and is coming working as Deputy Superintendent of Police in Uttar Pradesh. For the records, Lalit played in 183 Internationals scoring| 67 Goals.

“It’s a tough moment, but one every athlete must face. It has been the greatest honour of my life to represent India,” said Lalit Upadhyay
