BRS working president KT Rama Rao strongly criticised the Congress-led Telangana government for plunging the state into economic turmoil, citing back-to-back months of deflation as evidence. Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Thursday slammed the Congress government for pushing Telangana into an unprecedented economic crisis, with the State recording deflation or negative inflation for two consecutive months. He warned that the State’s economy was on the verge of collapse due to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy‘s chaotic economic policies.
In a statement, Rama Rao said for the first time in Telangana’s history, deflation was recorded in June and July. In July, the State recorded 0.44 percent negative inflation against a national average inflation of 2.1 percent, while in June it was 0.93 percent negative inflation compared to the country’s 1.55 percent. He said the situation was even worse in rural areas, stressing that deflation in this context was not a sign of relief but a dangerous economic indicator.
“When people spend only on essentials, when business, trade and industry grind to a halt. It is not a healthy sign, but a dangerous indicator,” he said, adding that the lack of new jobs and slowdown in economic activity was fuelling the crisis. The government was ignoring economists’ warnings and allowing the State’s growth engine to stall, he said.
Lashing out at the Congress regime, the BRS working president said Telangana, which under former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s leadership had been a model for the nation over the past nine years, has been reduced to a struggling economy in just a few months.
“It is painful to see the fastest-growing State in the country now moving in reverse. Under the clueless Congress regime, a robust economy is being destroyed. This is a hopeless government with hopeless governance,” he charged.
Rama Rao said the Congress was deceiving the public with impractical promises, creating false hopes and then betraying them. There was no concrete plan for job creation, he said, pointing out that sectors like IT, pharma and real estate, which flourished under the BRS, were now suffering under Congress rule.
Calling for urgent intervention, he demanded that the State government initiate economic reforms and launch job creation programmes without delay.
“If these failures are not corrected immediately, Telangana’s economic prospects will deteriorate further. Only decisive action can put the State back on the path of progress,” he added.
